Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cosmetic tattooing?

Cosmetic tattooing is the process of implanting pigment into the dermal layer of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes, makeup, or to enhance the natural features of the face.

What is the difference between cosmetic tattooing and microblading?

The main difference is in the process. Microblading, also known as feathering, brow embroidery or hair stroke brows uses a tiny row of needles to scratch and blade lines into the skin. Pigment is then applied into these tiny cuts to heal within the skin. This procedure is not suited to all skin types and although has become very popular over recent years can damage the skin in the process.

Does it hurt?

A topical anaesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing during your procedure. Pain thresholds vary from each individual person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entire procedure, however small amounts of discomfort is to be expected.

How long does it last?

Cosmetic tattoo treatments are considered semi-permanent and will not wash off however, they will fade over time and need to be touched up between 12 – 18 months. Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors: the clients skin type, the technique, the pigment colour used (lighter colours fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure) and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas. Typically, brows will last 1-3 years depending on your skin type.

How many treatments are needed?

A minimum of two treatments are usually needed, at least 6 – 12 weeks apart. With most procedures, the colour looks dramatically lighter after the first week. It is always recommend to have the second perfecting session to ensure the final result is even and for longevity. At the second treatment, the colour retention will be assessed and adjustments will be made as necessary. Everybody heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly the first time, do not worry, you can always go darker and add more density at your next appointment. (This is rare however we are dealing with skin & it is unpredictable.)

What is included in an appointment?

During your appointment we will perform a consultation which will include a custom brow design and face measuring to ensure your brows will match your face and you are happy with the them before the tattoo process begins. Together during this time we will choose a custom pigment colour to match. Topical anaesthetic’s are used during your procedure for pain management and you will walk away with your own after care balm & instructions .

What will my cosmetic tattoo look like straight after?

Generally the area tattooed will look darker as the pigment is on the surface of the skin. During the first week you must follow your aftercare given strictly to ensure to the best results during the healing process. You might experience some redness or swelling but this should go down within 24hours.
